What is WordPress?
WordPress is a website-creation tool specifically geared towards helping users launch a blog. It is widely celebrated for its ease of use and powerful features. Many leading brands, such as Mashable, TechCrunch and The New York Times use the WordPress platform for their own blog content. This means you’ll be in good company if you decide to start your WordPress blog today…which you should! Because it’s pretty easy–just follow these 5 steps.
Step 1: Select a design for your blog
You can pick from either a list or grid of your blog posts. If you’d like the blog to double as a website, you can use the “welcome page” or “online store” options. If you already have a website, then we recommend using the list or grid design. The list is a good option for B2B companies that are more likely to showcase learning or academic content. The grid option is great for businesses that expect to showcase a lot of visual-based blog posts. For example, will you be able to curate large, high-quality photos with each of your blog posts? If so, then we definitely recommend using the grid design.
Step 2: Choose a theme
Find a theme that matches your brand. Don’t worry if the theme doesn’t perform match your existing website–for most of the templates, you can edit the colors and images
Step 3: Enter a domain
Now, you will need a domain name to host your blog website. You can create a custom domain name by paying a little extra, or you can select a wordpress.com option for free. Whatever you decide, just make sure you domain name is memorable, easy to spell, and short.
Step 4: Select a plan
Select the free option.
Step 5: Edit first post
When your blog site is generated, you’ll see a placeholder for your first post. Click edit, and replace the content with a photo and your blog post text.
Step 6: Set up additional pages
In addition to the posts you publish, there are at least 2 pages that provide information to your visitors. These are your “About” and “Contact” pages.
